Its best-known sacred objects were the relics of its saintly monks. The caves (some of them dating from the Neolithic period) in which they lived and were buried, and from which the monastery's name is derived, form two underground labyrinths of tunnels, cells, and catacombs excavated in soft sandstone and loess. Several underground churches and chapels are located at the Kyiv Cave Monastery.

War Memorial Complex (WW II)
In Kyiv, along the banks of the famous Dnipro River, there is a gigantic metal statue of Motherland, holding a sword and shield. Under the statue is the Museum of War History. It is located on a large hill, which can be seen from many parts of the city. Here you can see many Soviet WWII and post war tanks, vehicles, and artillery on display outside. It is quite exciting to actually see a T-34 "Stalin" tank, one of the most famous Soviet tanks of the Great Patriotic War. In one of the museums at the complex, there were many interesting displays of original equipment and mementos which belonged to the deceased. There were letters, photographs, guns, medals, books, and artefacts

Optional excursions:
1. Golden Treasury Museum. The Museum contains a collection of Scythian Golden Jewellery (very similar to the collection that is exhibited at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg - but more exciting because of the unique item - the Golden Pectoral (neck lace) of Scythian Tsars with sophisticated carving - weighting over 3 kilos. The museum also contains a collection of "Treasures of the Church" that were expropriated by the Soviets in 1926 and stored at the museum forever since.
2. The Museum of Micro Miniatures. Nickolay Syadristy has created about 100 miniatures with instruments he made himself. At first, he took a whole year to create one or two miniatures. Now, it takes him nearly a month of painstaking work to create one piece - whether it's baby swallows inside a nest made of half a poppy seed, or a red rose on a green stem 0.05 millimeter (0.002 inch) thick, inside a human hair that has been polished so thoroughly that the flower can be clearly seen through it.)

Walking and shopping at Andrew’s Descent.
St Andrew Descent is one of Kyiv oldest streets. In ancient times, the street linked the administrative part of the Upper City with the Podil, the Lower City of merchants and artisans. This steep, winding stone street is a traditional place for outdoor totes, festivals, and concerts and has a variety of interesting art galleries and shops. The St. Andrew's Descent is like a cultural centre for Kyivans. Bulgakov lived there, the area around St. Andrew's Cathedral was the favorite place for walks for the famous Russian writer, Nikolay Gogol. The Richard's Castle is also located there. It is at the heart of Kyiv's artist community and is a favorite stop for tourists and one of the best areas in Kyiv to find traditional Ukrainian crafts and art. Travelers come here to visit art-galleries, shops and studios. Be sure - you will leave this place with many pleasant impressions and nice gifts.

The project of St. Andrew's Church was created by famous architect Rastrelli. The first stone of the church was laid by Empress Elizaveta Petrovna in 1744. During the construction the problem sprang up - there was a spring in the hill and for many years water leaked throw the walls of church's base and destroyed it.
Empress Elizaveta Petrovna died soon after church construction ended, and the building had fallen into decay - tsar's court no longer interested in Kiev's buildings.  In 1767 the church was consecrated but its condition was poor - the water from the spring destroyed the base of the building, into the holes of tiled roof fall rain and snow, birds broke windows and made nests inside. For a long time Kiev metropolitans corresponded with Synod and at last in 1797 all imperfections were repaired.  Large staircase with cast iron footsteps and church-porch were built 50 years after.
To its 100 years anniversary the church got tsar’s presents - icon of the Saviour, with carved inscription of the emperor on the back, the Gospel and small shrine with the part of Sr. Andrew relics.
